About
The Foundation
VA'A FENUA is a Polynesian foundation created to preserve hiro'a māohi, strengthen ties between the peoples of Te Moananui, and support communities through culture, health, and education.
Our mission
Fondation VA'A FENUA, based in Tahiti, French Polynesia, has worked since 2020 to preserve and transmit Polynesian cultural heritage. It funds community associations through a crowdfunding platform with tax deductions, and manages four flagship programs.
The Va'a Mata'a program offers five-day cultural immersions in the Papeno'o valley for former crystal methamphetamine dependents. The Te Pū Fa'aui i te Hiro'a Māohi center (Fare Hape) hosts ceremonies and integrative medicine seminars. The VA'A FENUA TV show explores health and culture issues in Polynesia. The International Va'a Symposium brings together Pacific peoples around the recognition of the va'a as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage.
Our values
Mana
The spiritual and ancestral power connecting every action to the land and the tupuna. Each donation, each program strengthens the collective mana.
Hiro’a
Living Polynesian heritage. Not a museum object, but a daily practice — language, dance, the va’a, traditional medicine.
Te Moananui
The great ocean that unites the peoples of the Pacific. From Tahiti to the Cook Islands, from Rapa Nui to Aotearoa — one oceanic family.
